Basque cultural institute

The Basque Cultural Institute (BCI) gives priority to means of expression in the Basque language.

The Basque Cultural Institute, founded in 1990, is an organisation (1901 Act Association) funded by the State (Ministry of Culture), the Aquitaine Regional Council, the Atlantic Pyrenees General Council and the Organisation of Municipalities for the Basque Culture, which brings together 146 member municipalities.

In accordance with its articles of association, the Basque Cultural Institute (BCI) gives priority to means of expression in the Basque language, based on projects carried out by around a hundred BCI member associations and artists. Further details

El programa Hogei'ta

The Basque Cultural Institute wishes to support the setting up of spaces for creation, artistic expression and exchange which bear witness to the means of appropriation and reinventing Basque culture by the younger generations. In parallel, in the medium and long term, it is also a reflection on the creation of sustainable tools for passing on the heritage which the BCI wishes to achieve with its partners. Further details

Cultural activities and projects

Since it was founded in 1990, the Basque Cultural Institute has provided assistance to around a hundred partner associations and their projects. The BCI also carries out its own actions in the field of heritage, the performing arts, activities and the dissemination of culture. The Basque culture's portal website www.eke.org is the Basque Cultural Institute's spearhead within the framework of its work to develop and disseminate the Basque culture with the public at large. The Basque Cultural Institute is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9am to 12:30pm and from 1:30 to 6pm (except Fridays, closure at 5pm, and wednesday, closure at 1pm).
