Le Musée Basque, en partenariat avec la Communauté Pays Basque, présente Les hôpitaux en Labourd et à Bayonne au temps du pèlerinage, une conférence de Maritchu Etcheverry, historienne de l’art médiéval.
Le devoir d’hospitalité, imposé par le premier concile de Nicée de 325 à toute communauté religieuse, est une réalité antérieure au pèlerinage à Compostelle, à l’origine tournée vers les pauvres. Qu’en était-il dans la cité épiscopale de Bayonne ? Quels lieux offraient repos et soin aux pauvres puis aux voyageurs ? Comment l’offre hospitalière s’est-elle structurée sur ce territoire et qu’elle a été son évolution à travers les siècles ? Peut-on aujourd’hui encore en saisir les traces ?
