Pierre Loti eta Euskal Herriaren Agonia
1908ko martxoaren 20an, deiadar bat Figaroren lehen orrrialdean, “Euskal Herriaren Agonia” deitoratzen du Pierre Lotik, haien antolaketa eta eraikitze proiektuekin, hain beste maite duen lur horren “lasaitasun eta edertasun azken erreserba” oinarriak andeatzen “esplotatzaileak”, “espekulatzaileak” eta beste “oharkabeko gaizkileak” salatuz. Haren iritzi artikulu honen oinarria, itsas bazterreko hondar muino hutsen gainean Hendaia-Hondartza sortzeko abian ezarri obra handiak.
Itsasontziko lotinanta eta jadanik akademia kide zen Loti Euskal Herria ezagutu zuenean 1891n, Bidasoan zebilen Javelot kanoiontziaren agintaritza hartu zuelarik. Herriaren “xarmak” eta “arima lotsorrak” haren inguruek, haren biztanleek, haien hizkuntzak, haren ohidurek, gauza guzi horiek pizten diote atxikimendu sakona. Etxe bat erosi eta bizi sinple bat ukaiten lehiatzen da herriko jendeekin ibiliz. Zaletasun honek, Ramuntcho (1897), haren obra famatuenetakoa idaztera eramaten du. Arrakasta itzela lortzen du honek eta antzerki gisa egokitua da 1908an.
Pierre Lotiren heriotzaren mendeburuaren karietara, Euskal Herria XX. mendearen hastapenean hunkitzen duten aldaketa sakonak, idazle eta artista handiak lurraldeko inguruak eta nortasuna defenditzeko hartu dituen jarreren bitartez ikustera eskaintzen du Pierre Loti eta Euskal Herriaren Agonia, Les Amis de Pierre Loti à Hendaye et au Pays Basque elkartearekin lankidetzan, Rochefort (17) herriko museoekin elkarlanean aurkeztu erakusketak. Euskal Museoko, Rocheforteko Pierre Lotiren Etxeko eta mailegugile pribatuek prestatu bildumetatik hautatu margolan, argazki eta beste dokumentuak urtarrilaren 18tik irailaren batera ikusgai jartzen ditu.
