Gure lehen artistak: Euskal Herriko kobazulo apainduak
Diego Garateren mintzaldi hau IKERek antolatzen du (UMR 5478, Euskara eta euskal testuen ikerketa-zentroa), UPPAren eta CNRSaren laguntzarekin, IKERen 20 urteurrena eta CNRSaren 80 urteurrenaren karietara.
Euskal Herrian, historiaurreko ondarea oso aberatsa da. Bereziki, gure harpeetan egin irudiak azpimarratzen ahal dira, gizateriaren lehen artearen frogak baitira. UNESCOk hala aitortu zuen harpeetako artea Gizateriaren Ondare izendatzean. Batzuk oso ezagunak dira, hala nola Isturitze, Ekain, Altxerri edo Santimamiñekoak. Azken urteetan, ikerketa indarrez bultzatu da eta ezagutzen diren harpe apainduen kopurua hirukoiztu da gure lurraldean. Hitzaldi honek gaur egungo egoera eta gure ondarearen garrantzia erakutsiko du.
Diego Garatek aurrehistoriako doktoregoa egin zuen Kantabriako Unibertsitatean. Unibertsitate horretako Instituto Internacional de Investigaciones Prehistoricas (IIIPC) zentroan ikertzaile da orain. Azken urteetan Euskal Herriko ondare arkeologikoaren ikertzaile garrantzitsuenetarik bat bilakatu da. Harpe berri batzuen ikerketan aitzindari izateaz gain, harpe "klasikoetan" ere irudi berriak deskubritu eta aztertu ditu.
